TEACH is a 501c(3) regional homeschool support group,
serving southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. We are a tax-exempt, non-profit Virginia corporation.
All of our programs and events are coordinated by volunteers.
T.E.A.C.H. offers sports programs for children three years of age through senior year in high school. Programs have included Junior co-ed sports in baseball, softball, tball, soccer, basketball, flag football and cheerleading. High School competitive sports are Middle School, Junior Varsity and Varsity teams in Boys Soccer and Girls Volleyball in the Fall, Boys and Girls Basketball in the Winter, and Boys Baseball, Girls Softball, Girls Soccer CO-ED Tennis in the Spring.
The purpose of the sports program is to aid homeschooled athletes to grow in physical ability and moral character, to learn to work with a team, and compete with other private schools and homeschool organizations in the area.
T.E.A.C.H. conducts a senior graduation and a junior/senior prom each year. These events provide homeschooled students the opportunity to attend milestone events that they would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in.
T.E.A.C.H. maintains a website, teachhomeschool.com, to aid parents in a successful homeschool experience, including a Support page with links to other important websites that offer enrichment classes, legal help, testing, etc.
T.E.A.C.H. sends out a newsletter announcing events ranging from field trips and special courses to college fairs and changes in the homeschool law .
T.E.A.C.H. periodically aids parents in providing various fairs and contests that allow students to compete and learn from each other. These activities provide a forum for public achievement and enhance and enrich the homeschooling experience.
T.E.A.C.H. provides a scholarship application for a homeschool family needing help with sports registration fees.
TEACH Governing Board and Officers
Each Board member serves in a non-waged, voluntary capacity. Husband and wife are asked to serve together, but it is not mandatory. Twelve individuals are an ideal number of Board members, serving a term of three years. Each member may seek re-appointment at the conclusion of the serving term, with no limit on the number of years they can effectively serve.
An Officer must be a current member of the Board and is elected by the entire Board to serve a term of one year, with no limitation on the number of years they can be re-elected. Elections are held in July of each year. New Board members are Members at Large and are expected to assist Officers and Event Coordinators the first year. The second year, they can be nominated for an Officer position on the Board or asked to Coordinate a special event that they have assisted the year before.
Presently, there are four Officer positions: President, VP, Recording Secretary and Treasurer.
All Board members are expected to attend all major events as a team and one game per sport in Fall, Winter and Spring.
Each At Large Board member is assigned at least one regular duty related to programs offered by T.E.A.C.H.
